Introduction

757Labs.com is a group of technology enthusiasts mainly in the Hampton Roads (Southeastern Virginia) area. This is mainly the publishing point of projects coming from the local HRGeeks & 757.org social communities. We work on research and projects to be published and presented. The outlets for this work is generally technology related forums such as print magazines, technology websites and "hacker" cons. The only people that are considered a part of 757labs are those that have actively contributed. Participating in HRGeeks/757.org events and publication, presentation or implementation of projects is what is required to get on here. At this point in time, the lab is no longer a physical space. There was once a "hacker space" in Hampton Roads but it is gone (Funded strictly by Tele Monster). Another space would beconsidered only if the space was close to free. We help to make Hampton Roads look better than it is in terms of the community for young tech people, so someone from the community can pay for this benefit. The social entry point is HRGeeks. HRGeeks is a good site to visit, since all of our projects are also posted there when complete along with forums. There is also a #hrgeeks IRC channel on irc.757.org. This site is more of a scoreboard and is only updated upon a new information or project release.

For the most part our activity has never been noticed in Hampton Roads. The good news is, people from other areas have recognized some of our work in pretty major ways. This is good. While our activity should be valued by the community, in Hampton Roads it hasn't been. It's just the nature of the town. In regards to the 757 area code, not all contributors are specifically in the Hampton Roads region, and the likelyhood that current members may move away when good job opportunities present themselves elsewhere is a constant possibility.
